CHESTER A. SCHMIDT

LOWELL - Chester A. Schmidt, 81, died Tuesday evening at his home, 195 Fourth St., Lowell. Death followed a long illness.

He was born near Lowell Nov. 12, 1880, a son of the late George and Mary Ward Schmidt. He spent his entire life in the Lowell area, and worked for 25 years in the oil field. He was retired as 27 years as custodian of the Lowell schools.

A charter member of the Lowell Volunteer Fire Dept., he had served as village mayor and president of the council.

He is survived by his wife Osee Miracle Schmidt, whom he married April 18, 1903; two children, Mrs. Frank A. Hoskin of Salem and Bernard Schmidt of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Schau and Mrs. Ward Hyde, both of Marietta, and two brothers, John of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Clarence of Lowell.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lowell Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Dowdell will officiate and interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Peoples Funeral Home, Lowell, after Thursday evening.
