CHAS. DABOLD SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK
Charles F. Dabold, 67, superintendent of streets since the first of the year, former city councilman and for many years a businessman in Marietta, dropped dead as the result of a heart attack at the city hall on Monday morning. He had been in declining health for some time.
Mr. Dabold became superintendent of streets under Mayor Gray, early in the present administration. He had been elected to city council at the November election and held that office for a few weeks after the first of the year. He resigned the place on his appointment as street superintendent.
Monday morning Mr. Dabold left home at the usual time, expecting to take charge of an extensive repair job on the Lancaster street hill. He walked to the city hall, after telling his wife that he felt badly and that he expected he would have to be hauled home. He conferred with Director Russell regarding the Lancaster street work, gave the necessary orders to his men, then walked into a room at the rear of the building.
A few minutes later, David F. Carr, city hall janitor, entered that part of the building and found Mr. Dabold dead where he had fallen. Apparently he had been unable to move after he suffered the fatal attack.
For 26 years Mr. Dabold was in charge of the retail store of the Marietta Paint & Color company on Front street. He retired early last year when the company discontinued its store. In November he was elected to the City Council. That was the third term to which he had been elected councilman, having served during the Hovey and Crawford administrations.
He had long been active in Marietta fraternal organizations, having been one of the leading members of Raynald Lodge No. 82. Knights of Pythias. He had represented that organization in grand lodge and was especially active both in behalf of the late L.W. Ellenwood and the late Rev. E.A. Coil, who served as grand chancellors of Ohio. He also was an Odd Fellow, a member of Marietta Lodge No.67, and was a past exalted ruler and a former trustee of Marietta Lodge of Elks No.477.
Following his death the coroner was called to view the remains, after which they were removed to the Doudna & McClure mortuary where preparations for burial were made.
Mr. Dabold was the son of the late John and Sarah Dabold, of Marietta. He was born here on October 23, 1859. On September 7, 1886, he was united in marriage with Miss Sophia Neubeck, of Marietta. The couple observed their 40th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago with a family gathering. Mr. Dabold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Kinzel, of Marietta, and Miss Alice Dabold, at home. Miss Dabold is on an automobile trip in the East, having left on Wednesday with the Henry Schuff family for an extensive trip. Brother and sister of the deceased are Harry Dabold, of Lima, and Mrs. Ella Seevers, of Akron.
MR. DABOLD'S FUNERAL
Funeral services for Charles F. Dabold will be held at the home, No. 207 Wooster street, on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. E. B. Townsend will officiate. The body will be placed in the mausoleum in Oak Grove.
