James 'Jim' Ernest Clifton, 74
BYESVILLE - James "Jim" Ernest Clifton, 74, of Cumberland, went home to be with God on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 10, 1932, in Morgan County, the son of the late Robert Clifton and Sylvia Kildow Clifton. Jim was retired from Knowlton Steel. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening, spending time in his workshop and spending time with friends and family. He was a founding member of the High Hill Sportsman's Club and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 2187 of McConnelsville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Violet Mallett Clifton, whom he married Oct. 26, 1962; two sons, David Clifton of Claysville and Charles Clifton of Cambridge; four daughters, Debra (Marty) Price of Cambridge, Barbara Whittle of Claysville, Lucinda (Dana) Swope of Zanesville and Valerie (Gary) Taylor of Cumberland; two brothers, Richard (and the late Patricia) Clifton and Jack (Bonnie) Clifton; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bo" Clifton.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 26, at the Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo.
