Death Claims L. G. Thompson
Oil Operator Dies in Detroit
Leon G. Thompson, 54, independent oil operator in Mt. Pleasant and Michigan died Sunday, July 2, in Harper hospital, Detroit. He had been hospitalized a month.
He came to Michigan at the start of the oil play and operated as both driller, contractor and producer. As contractor and part owner, he played a role in the sensational discovery of the North Adams pool in Arenae county with Don Rayburn and Ervin Major in 1939.
Mr. Thompson was born in Warren county, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1896, the son of Curtis and Rose Noblit Thompson. He came to Mt. Pleasant 20 years ago.
He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Elks, the Masonic lodge, Shrine and Consistory and served in the World War I with the 3rd division 38th U.S. infantry.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 5 at 2 p.m. from the Stinson Funeral home with burial in Riverside cemetery. Dr. C. W. Mackenzie will officiate.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Edith; one son, Richard; three daughters, Marie Thompson MacRae, Yvonne Thompson Atha and Ruth Ann Thompson; his mother, Mrs. Rose Thompson, Clarion, Pa.; one sister, Mrs. W. M. Moore of Clarion and two brothers, Clyde of Mt. Pleasant and Ralph of Clarion.
