He was a retired coal miner from Armco and Peabody Coal Companies with 18 years of service, after having been a truck driver for over 26 years. He was a member of Prenter Freewill Baptist Church and the UMWA.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Alfred and Robert Atkins.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Atkins of Seth; daughter, Donna Atkins of Dawes, W.Va.; brother, Harry of Cross Lanes. He had two grandchildren, Allen and Christina Atkins of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet with the Rev. Larry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, W.Va.
