Louis W. "Nig" Blitch, 87, of 434 Blitch Place, Holly Hill, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in a North Charleston nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 22, in Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Buddy Locke and the Rev. Bill Felder officiating. Burial, with Coast Guard rites, will be in Holly Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Steve Baldwin, Daniel Jones, Eddie Page, Eric Renker, Perry Sutton and David Robinson. Mr. Blitch was born in St. George, a son of the late Frank Blitch and Dora Way Blitch. He was a graduate of St. George High School and a veteran of World War II as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a Master Machinist. He was the widower of Carolyn Dangerfield Blitch. Survivors include a daughter: Carol Anne Schneider, of Holly Hill; two sons, Robert E. Blitch, of Ladson, and T. R. Blitch, of Holly Hill; grandchildren, Robert E. Blitch Jr., Bryan W. Blitch, Deborah Atkins, and Elizabeth A. Atkins; and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, at Avinger Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, PO Box 69, Vance, SC 29163.
