John Stockham, the son of George Stockham and Elizabeth Biss of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. John first married Alice Smith in 1802 who died in 1822, the same year that her 10th child Algernon Stockham was born. John then married Elizabeth "Betsey" Palmer in 1823 and moved from Bucks County Pennsylvania to Harford County, Maryland about 1824. He became a successful farmer in Harford County, Maryland owning and cultivating a large farm until his death at the age of 72. John and his second wife Elizabeth had six children as follows: Mary Palmer Stockham born 1826, Lydia Ann W. Stockham born 1830, Susan Trice Stockham born 1832, Algernon S. Stockham born 1835, Margaret E. Stockham born 1842 and son J. Algernon Stockham born 1854. Many of his large family are found in Saint Georges Episcopal Cemetery in Perryman, Harford, Maryland.
