Hiram Ashby, son of William and Mary "Polly" (Osborne) Ashby, married ca 1842, Susan Gale, daughter of Nehemiah and Susannah (Lyon) Gale.

Hiram went to find his fortune in the gold fields of California in 1848 and died in Sacramento, California.

Hiram and Susan (Gale) Ashby are parents of Edgar Ashby, born January 1843, died 1864, married Eliza Jane Carpenter, born ca 1847, daughter of Anson S. and Lucinda (Curtis) Carpenter.

Hiram shares his tombstone with his sister Anna who died two months after he did.
