Barnes died in his home in the Marydell community Saturday following a lengthy illness. A native of Leake County, he was born January 22, 1892. He was a member of Renfro Baptist Church. For years he farmed and had a blacksmith shop at Marydell.
Survivors in addition to his widow, Mrs. Ida Jackson Barnes, include three daughters, Mrs. Willie Phillips of Jackson, Mrs. Ara Phillips and Mrs. Pauline Thornton of Carthage; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Gee and Mrs. Connie Evans of Carthage; four brothers, Fred, Josh and Webster Barnes of Carthage and Richard Barnes of Fort Worth Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
