Distinguished Service Cross Citation:

"The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant James A. Sheret (ASN: 1214550), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 108th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, A.E.F., near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. During the operations against the Hindenburg line on 29 September Sergeant Sheret displayed exceptional bravery in several single-handed attacks on enemy positions. After rushing two hostile posts and killing the occupants with his revolver, Sergeant Sheret attacked four of the enemy in a machine-gun position, killing one of them before he was himself surrounded and killed by the other three."
