Paul was the third child of Samuel Edward Williford and Sadie Thompson Hyder. Paul had 4 sisters and 2 brothers. His first sister died at birth on Nov 13, 1913. He grew up in the mill village of Monarch, SC. Paul only had a 6th grade education. He went to work in the mill at age 12 and worked in the mill most of his life. His first marriage was to Christine Robertson. He married Christine when she was only 15. Christine was big for her age. Paul and Christine had 3 children together. He and Christine divorced after 38 years of marriage. He then married Audrey Rainey in 1966. Audrey was from Rock Hill, SC. Paul and Audrey had a daughter together. Paul spent the remainder of his life in Rock Hill and died of lympnode cancer. Paul is buried in the Rainey Family plot. (source: S.W. Williford-son)
