Rites Wednesday For W. G. McDowell

Relatives and friends assembled in the Chapel of the Barry Funeral Home at 10:30 Wednesday morning, Oct. 28 to pay final tribute to W. G. McDowell, former Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad Company employee. The rites were conducted by the Rev. E. Allen Bailey, pastor of Okolona Methodist Church. Burial was in I. O. O. F. Cemetery.

Pallbearers were W. T. Mullins of Atlanta, C. C. Johnston, T. C. Woodfin, E. M. Fitzgerald, F. S. Henson and J. L. Spencer.

Mr. McDowell died Monday in Atlanta, Ga., following a two week illness. He had bee in failing health for some time. He was 75.

A son of the late W. B. McDowell and the late Mrs. Mattie Sadler McDowell, he was born and reared here, he was an employee of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad Company for a number of years before moving to Columbus where he was with the Electric Power Company until his retirement several years ago.

Since his retirement he and Mrs. McDowell, the former Miss Lucy Robinson, have made their home with their son, Guy McDowell in Atlanta. He was a Methodist.

He leaves another son, Banks McDowell of Jackson, three grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Among those here for the services were Mrs. J. H. Campbell, West Memphis, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Miller, Jackson; Miss Ray McDonald, Atlanta, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Faires of Clinton, Ohio.
