Charles R. Shultheis, 87, of 312 Clawil St., died at 6:05 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been a patient there since April 22.

He was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Clay Township, Carroll County, to the late Elbert and Hazel Rohrabaugh Shultheis. He was a 1938 graduate of Delphi High School. He moved to Brookston in 1982, and he wintered in Jenson Beach, Fla.

His first marriage was to Edna Yuill in Pyrmont on Jan. 16, 1944, and she died Jan. 29, 1979. He married Ruth A. Gushwa Mears, in Delphi, on March 23, 1982, and she survives.

Mr. Shultheis farmed most of his life on his family farm in Clay and Madison townships in Carroll County. His farm received the Hoosier Homestead Award from the State of Indiana.

He was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church and had been a member of the former Pyrmont EUB Church, then Pyrmont Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Marilyn K. Shultheis of Delphi and Sharon Dewing (husband: Bob) of Kentland; a stepson, Robert Mears (wife: Dee) of Chalmers; three stepdaughters, Cindy Wasson (husband: Rick) of Monticello, Rosemary L. Mears of Lorton, Va., and Jennifer Pritts (husband: Mark) of Burnettsville.

Friends may call 5-8 p.m. today at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Service there 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Joe Hornick officiating. Interment Pyrmont Cemetery. Surviving are 2 grandchildren, 7 stepgrandchildren, 15 stepgreat-grandchildren. He truly loved farming.
