Mrs. Ruth Beam, Belmont St., Waymart, died Tuesday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, after an illness. Her first husband Coe Beckwith, died in 1923. Her second husband, L. Clark Beam, died in 1978.
Born in East Canaan, South Canaan Twp., she was a daughter of the late Elbert and Lizzie Curtis[Enslin] Swingle. A resident of the Waymart area most of her life, she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Waymart, and it's women's societies.
Mrs. Beam and her husband were proprietors of Ladore Farms for 40 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Daughters of America, and the Waymart Golden Years Group. She was honored by the Waymart Community Association as "Woman of the Year" in 1976.
Surviving are three sons, Walter Beckwith, Honesdale; Donald Beckwith, Waymart, and Warren Beckwith, Equinock; a daughter, Mrs. Maynard (Thelma) Stratton, Waymart; a step daughter, Mrs. Michael (Jennie) Bellis, Waymart; a sister, Mrs. Lena Beckwith, Waymart; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchilren and one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church, Waymart. Rev. Frank Wescott, interim pastor, and Rev. Russell A. Edwards, pastor emetitus of the South Clinton and Waymart Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment, Canaan Corners Cemetery. Viewing at the Hubert E. Jenkins Funeral Home, 269 Belmont St., Waymart, on Thursday 2 to 4, 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Waymart. Memorial services by the Legion Auxiliary will be Thursday at 7 p.m. and the DOA services will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
