O. O. Wilcox Rites Set For April 16
Funeral services for Olin O. Wilcox, a prominent resident of Weleetka will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, April 16, in the First Baptist church of Weleetka with Rev. Dan Fletcher officiating.
Mr. Wilcox was born Jan. 23,1897 in Quinton and died April 13 in the Wetumka General Hospital at the age of 86. Following his marriage to Allie Williams in 1920, the couple moved to Weleetka in 1921 where he owned and operated the Corner Drug until 1971.
A World War I Navy veteran, Mr. Wilcox was a VFW Service officer for 20 years. Active in civic and community affairs, he served on the city council 4 years, the Weleetka School board 10 years and Okfuskee county hospital board 8 years. He was a deacon of the First Baptist church over 50 years and a 32nd Degree Mason for 52 years. In 1982, he was named the outstanding male senior citizen in Oklahoma.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Berta Mae) Johnson and Mrs. Bill (Wanda) McGarr, both of Weleetka;2 grandchildren, Mrs. Sana Jo Mancino of Oklahoma City and Glen Johnson of Norman; and 3 great - grandchildren, Joey Mancino of Oklahoma City and Jennifer Johson and Gregory Scott Johnson , both of Norman.
Interment will be in the Weleetka Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Buckley Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Roy Moore, Ulon Killmer, W. L. Whitehouse, Benny Ross, Gerald Wade, Cloyce Fite and Lawrence Deen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Orvel Jones, Tom Reddick, Beno Reddick, Homer Griffin.
