Prof. G. B. PERRY
Prof. GEORGE BROWN PERRY died Sunday morning, almost 82 years old, lived in Waurika 22 years. Funeral services were held Monday, conducted by Rev. RALPH A. HILL, assisted by Rev. W. D. BOLTON and Rev. G. LYLE SMITH, all friends of Prof. Perry. Miss FAYE PEPIN and Mrs. E. J. LEVERETT provided music. GEORGE BROWN PERRY, only son of WILLIAM FLAKE PERRY and ELLEN DOUGLAS BROWN PERRY, was born July 16, 1854 at Taliadega, Alabama where his father was president of a college. There were six daughters, two of whom survive, Mrs. W. T. SIMPSON and Mrs. CHARLES DEETS of Ruskin, Louisiana. When the Civil War came, WILLIAM FLAKE PERRY closed the college and enlisted in the Confederate army, attained rank of general. After the war, he took his family to Lynnland, Kentucky where a military institute was founded by a group of Southerners and Gen. Perry was made the head of the school. Here his son grew to manhood, finished his literary course, preparatory to studying law. The school, although a military institute, enrolled daughters of some donors, and thus Prof. Perry and Miss REBEKAH SPRIGG, known as REE, became sweethearts and, following their graduation from different departments, married in 1875.
They went to a newly founded school, Kentucky College in PeeWee Valley where they lived for a number of years. Six children were born to them. A daughter who died in infancy, a son ROY whom they lost at age of 17, WILL PERRY, who sang with the Metropolitan Opera Co. and who held the chair of Latin and Greek at a college in Nashville, Tennessee until his death a few years ago, GEORGE BROWN PERRY Jr. of Denver, Colorado; EUGENE PERRY of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. CORA PERRY SNIDER of Waurika, the latter three surviving.
There are 11 grandchildren: BILL PERRY of New York City, who is heard often in songs over the NBC; WARREN PERRY and GEORGE BROWN PERRY III of Nashville; PEGGY and ILLA REE PERRY of Denver; GEORGE DOUGLAS and JEAN KATHRYN PERRY of Oklahoma City, REE PERRY, C. D., BILLY and GEORGE BROWN SNIDER of Waurika.

After the death of Mrs. Perry 24 years ago at Franklin, Kentucky, Prof. Perry went back to the first college where he had been in charge, Lynnland, and taught there a year. Then he spent a year at Nashville, before joining Mrs. Snider at her home in Waurika. Except part of one summer with his son G. B. Jr. at Denver, he made his home with the Snider family.
