George was born in Tehachapi, Ca. His family lived in Oklahoma before moving to Oregon in 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war he returned to Eugene, Oregon where he lived until moving to Aloha, Oregon in 1987 and then to Newberg, Oregon in 1995. He was a boat operator for Georgia Pacific for 19 years before his retirement in 1986. In 1944 George married Ardis Newberry. George was survived by his wife; daughters - Angela of Portland, Karen Carnay of West Linn, Oregon, Marilyn Almquist of Bend, Oregon, Debra Winningham-Smith of Bellevue, Washington; & four grandchildren; his son - Ronnie Allen Winningham passed away in 1946.
