Calvin G. Wilson was born in March of 1838 in Washington, D.C. He was married to a woman named Bertha M., probably the daughter of Olaf and Mary Peterson, born in October of 1865. The Petersons were from Norway. Calvin had at least three children: Murray, Harry, Kate.

The Wilsons moved to the Stilcoos area about 1898, as reported in The West:

"We received a pleasant call this week by Capt. C. G. Wilson and wife of who have lately become residents of Tsiltcoos. Capt. Wilson is a veteran of the civil war and his wife has a brother at Manilla a member of Co. C, 2nd regiment Oregon volunteers, he having enlisted at Eugene last spring."(1)

The following year saw another mention of Wilson in the newspaper:

"Capt. C. G. Wilson is preparing to erect a comfortable and commodious residence on Tsiltcoos lake. L. R. Johnson expects to do the carpenter work."(2)

In the 1900 census, Calvin was listed as a "retired lawyer." Living with he and his wife, were four step-children surnamed and a brother-in-law Olaff Peterson. Because the youngest step-child was only 8-years-old, Calvin's children listed above must have been from a prior marriage.

Calvin Wilson died on 18 July 1902 at his home on Siltcoos Lake in Douglas county. His two sons were listed as living in Chicago, while his daughter Kate was said to be "somewhere in California." Calvin is buried, unmarked, in the western section of the cemetery.
