Arlie was the son of Ulysess E. and Nora Bell Hedges Smith. He married Thelma F. Malo in Marion, Ohio on August 5, 1951. She died on April 19, 1991. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl L. Searfoss and Cynthia A. Smith. He also leaves one sister Catherine Arnold and two brothers, Charles Kenneth Smith and Elbert J. Smith and one sister Odesa I. Eyler preceded him in death.
