Mr. Berry Hampton Tanner was first buried in this Ward Cemetery [old original] by his second wife, Hester Kirkland Tanner. At her death she was buried beside him. I have been told by family members that Hester Tanner is still buried here in an unmarked grave. Some years after her death Mr. Tanner's grave marker was moved to Campground Methodist Church Cemetery in Bacon County Georgia. It was placed there beside his first wife by descendants.
Mr. B. H. Tanner was the first sheriff of Coffee County Georgia. I think it is important to note that he had originally been interred here.
B. H. Tanner was the son of John E. [1780-1827] and Mary Douglas Tanner [1782-1824]. They are buried at Campground in Bacon Co. He was first married to Eliza Ann Taylor Tanner
[1817-1863]
