David Allen was born in Madrid, St. Lawrence, NY to Samuel and Sarah Jane Allen. He married Sarah Woolery in 1827 and they made a home for awhile in Dundas, Ontario, Canada. By 1840 they were back in NY and had moved to Michigan by 1848. They had nine children: Harriet, Albert, Samuel, Melissa, James N., David H., John W., Cynthia P., and Sarah Gertrude. They moved to California and finally settled in Chico.
