Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, November 5, 1935 page 2 col 1: E.A. Whitcomb, G.A.R. Man, Dies. Edward A. Whitcomb, 94, one of the few remaining Civil War veterans in Chico, died at the Veterans Home at Yountville yesterday morning.

A native of Minnesota, Whitcomb had resided in Chico the past 15 years. He served with an infantry regiment of California during the Civil War.

Whitcomb was past commander of Halleck post No. 19, G.A.R., a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star chapter of LeRoy, Minn. He also was a member of the First Methodist Church of Chico.

He is survived by three children, Reuben Whitcomb of Livermore, Mrs. Jesse Spencer of Chico and Frank Whitcomb of Kansas City. Among surviving nephews and nieces are Mrs. W.J. Bowman and Bert Allen of Chico. The body was brought to Chico yesterday afternoon by the Westfall Funeral Home.

Chico Record, Thursday Morning, November 7, 1935 page 6 col 3: Last Rites Paid Civil War Vet. Last rites for Edward A. Whitcomb, Civil War veteran of Chico, were observed in the chapel of the Westfall Funeral Home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Rev. G.G. Berger officiated and Roy Jefferies sang "Crossing the Bar" and "Asleep in Jesus". Graveside services were conducted by the Chico Masonic Lodge, and casket bearers were members of the lodge. They were O.W. Ramstean, William Sigel, Frank Boyd, David Dearborn, David Wurschmidt and A.M. Carah. Interment was in the Masonic Plot of the Chico Cemetery.

Pension was sought on August 9, 1890, and Chico Cemetery Association records indicate burial took place on Nov 6, 1935.
