Chico Daily Record, Tuesday, October 20, 1903, pg 1 col 2: Jack Gallagher Dead. Jack Gallagher, an old man who has worked around Chico for many years, was found on Eighth street last evening by Officer Clawson in a helpless condition, the result of too much liquor. Gallagher was a common drunkard, and, as far as the officers have been able to ascertain, has been unable to secure liquor at the saloon bars. Nevertheless, he had gotten liquor, probably by persons who sympathized with him on account of his intense appetite.

He was taken to the City Hall, and Dr. Gatchell was summoned to treat him, for his condition was serious. Mr. Gallagher died this morning at 1 o'clock.
