The Chico Enterprise, Monday Evening, April 8, 1918, pg 1 col 6: Civil War Veteran Passed Away Today. John Wesley Montgomery, Civil War Veteran, and a resident of Chico for the past ten years, passed away at his house in Chapmantown shortly before noon today.

Montgomery was a native of Illinois, and was born October 28, 1836. He came to California in the seventies, settling in Redding. He came to Chico in 1908. Surviving are the widow and a granddaughter, Ione Jones of Chico. Funeral services will be held from the Fetters & Williams chapel Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. L.S. Moore will officiate. Burial will be made in the Chico cemetery.
