Muriel is the daughter of Joseph & Fredricka (née Vollkommer) Burns, both originally from Brooklyn. Muriel & her brother Bobby were raised in Queens.
She married young, just 17 when she wed Ray Long, who was 19. They moved out to Long Island and raised their 2 children, Susan & Bobby Jr (with Muriel's brother being "Bobby Sr"), in North Babylon. After her father Joe's passing in 1970, her mother Freida came and lived with them.
Muriel died young, passing away from thyroid complications at the age of 52. She & Ray had been married 35 years.
✞ Muriel Theresa Long is buried at Long Island National Cemetery on Long Island. She was joined 15 years later by her husband Raymond. Her son Robert, a Vietnam veteran, is also buried at L.I.N.C., but in a different section than his parents.
