Walter H. Blodget was the youngest of the six children of Harrison and Diantha Dewey Blodget. He spent his early life in his home town of Denmark where he started in business as the proprietor of a small store and acted as an agent for the warehouse on the Black River canal. He then moved to Lowville where he ran a store that focused on handling butter and cheese for the New York city market. In 1881 he decided to move to a larger city and chose Worcester Mass where he opened a wholesale produce store. The business thrived and in 1898 was incorporated as the W. H. Blodget Company. Before long the business was doing more than $1,000,000 in volume per year.

Mr. Blodgett became active on the Worcester Board of Trade and in 1902 was elected its president. In 1903 he ran for mayor of Worcester and won by a significant margin.

In his personal life, he married first Lotta J. Boshart of Lowville in 1873. She died in 1882. In 1884 he marrid Mary F. Spaulding, the daughter of M.W. and Verilla Spaulding.

Mr. Blodgett was survived by his wife and five children, Bertha, Chester B, Anna Dewey (wife of Stanly P. Stuart), Jesse N, and Walter Harrison Blodget, Jr.
