Dominic A. Dellairo, 83, died June 6, 2008 at Port St. Lucie Medical Center. He lived in Port St. Lucie for 25 years, coming from Yorktown Heights, NY.

Dominic was a veteran, World War II, enlisted 9/25/1942, US Navy, USS Yukon, AF 9, Seaman First Class, Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operation. He reported to the USS Yukon on 2/24/1943, on 9/22/1943, about 4pm, the USS Yukon was struck by a torpedo from U-979, a German submarine, four miles off the Skagi Lighthouse, Reykjavik, Iceland. He was wounded during this surface warfare action in the Atlantic and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1945.

Dominic's surviving family includes his sister, Ruth Dellairo Bleda; sons, Stephen Dellairo, Robert Dellairo & Mark Carbone; daughters, Barbara, Donna, Patricia (Patty) and Danette Hilburn; grandchildren, Dominic, Robert, Sherry, Mellisa, Kimberly, Michelle and Nicole and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his wife, Ann Dellairo.
