Dr. James C. "Jim " Austin, age 56, of 1443 Town Creek Road, Eden, passed away Sunday morning at his home.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 24, 1951 to Wilfred and Shirley Austin.
He completed his undergraduate work at University of Michigan and received his medical doctorate degree from Wayne State University.
He came to Eden in 1982 and joined Eden Internal Medicine. He was a member of the Rockingham County School Board.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lisa Mitschke Austin of the home; daughters Stephanie Austin Brooks and husband Jamie of Chapel Hill, Anna Austin of Philadelphia, Pa. , and Sophie Austin of the home; parents Wilfred and Shirley Austin of Eden; brothers, Marshall Austin and wife Stephanie of Colliersville, Tn., Joe Austin and wife Sue of Nambour, Queensland, Australia,; sisters, Marcy King and husband Tom of Valencia, Pa. and Laura Allen and husband Stanley of Kennett Square, Pa. ; brother-in-law , Richard Mitschke and wife Yen of Crestview , Fla., Kurt Mitschke and wife Lori of Shelby Township, MI; mother-in-law , Theresa Mitschke of Rochester, MI.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Schools, 511 Harrington Hwy, Eden, NC 27288.
A fund will be established in Dr. Austin's name to honor excellence in teaching.
