"J.J. Maney, Former WNC Sheriff, Dies
WEAVERVILLE - John J. Maney, 73, a retired lumber-man and farmer Jackson County sheriff, died Thursday in an Asheville hospital after a week's illness.
Mr. Maney had served four years as sheriff of Jackson County prior to his retirement several years ago to make his home in Horse Shoe in Henderson County.
Surviving are the widow, Victoria Anders Maney; one daughter, Mrs. Earl Radford of Mars Hill; two sons Frank of Mars Hill, and Fay of Horse Shoe.
Also three brothers; J.C. of West Ashville, C.J. & T.D. of Bernardsville; seven grandchildren; & one great grandchild.
John Maney was a native of the Bernardsville.
Funeral services were held Saturday in Bernardsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. H. Keener, the Rev. Lyman Rich & the Rev. Frank Blaylock officiated. Burial is in Maney Cemetery.
Nephews will be pallbearers & nieces will be flower bearers. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the services.
West Funeral Home is in charge.
