E Frank Firth Dies at 86 in Spartansburg - E Frank Firth, 86, secretary of the Spartansburg School Board for the past several years and one of the borough's most active residents, died suddenly at his home yesterday morning. A retired Sparta Township farmer, Mr Firth is survived by six children, 23 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He lived in the township and the borough most of his life. A son of Harry and Elizabeth Platt Firth, he was born in Philadelphia on April 11, 1868. He married Ida Belle Harrington on Dec 27, 1893. She died on July 29, 1951. Mr Firth was a member of the IOOF for more than 50 years. The surviving children are Mrs Gladys Nichols of Chattanooga, TN; Harry Firth of Spartansburg; Mrs Mary Jane Gragg of Detroit; Mrs Dorothy Spade of Chicago; Mrs Lillian Farrar of Keene, NH; and Frank Firth, Jr, of Centerville. Two daughters died previously, Elizabeth Squier on Jan 1, 1939, and Florence Hampe on July 15, 1950. Friends may call at the Torrey and Hays funeral home in Spartansburg...Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Spartansburg.
