Benton Bassham, 73, of Hardy, died Wednesday, July 31, 1991 in St. Bernards Regional Medical Center at Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born in Moko, Arkansas on May 20, 1918, the son of Cecil Irving Bassham and Mary Ann Reavis. He served his Country overseas during World War II. He married Mary Agnes Rogers on February 6, 1946 and to this union, three children were born, Dale Benton, Carol Estelle, and Russell Ray. He was employed as a farmer and a building contractor and he was a former justice of the peace and a director on the Soil Conservation Board. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Hardy and Masonic Lodge #432.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Rogers Bassham of the home; two sons, Dale Bassham of Cherokee Village and Russell Bassham of Hardy; one daughter, Carol Bates of Hardy; two brothers, his twin, Clinton Bassham of Salem, and Grady Bassham of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; three sisters, Faye Klar of Abilene, Kans., Opal Adams and Beulah Anderson, both of St Louis, Mo.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert Bassham of Kansas City, Mo., and Tracey Bassham of Moko, and infant twin sisters.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 3, at the New Hope Baptist Church of Hardy with Revs Lendol Jackson and J C Smith officiating. Burial was in the Wirth Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Hardy.
