Served in the US Army World War II in Europe 1942-1945 in General Eisenhower's SHAEF Division. Two sons, Freeman D. and Leslie I. also served in the US Army in Europe during the same time period.

Laura Loveland, WWII Vet, former postmaster, dies.

Laura V. Loveland, 88, of Harrisonville, died Thursday in the Memorial Hospital of Salem County.

Mrs. Loveland, a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army with GI Division during World War II, served with General Dwight D.Eisenhower in the European Theater and received a Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and a WAAC Service Ribbon.

She was with her two sons, Freeman and Leslie who were in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division, in Belfast, Ireland, Paris and Cologne, Germany.

Cpl. Leslie Loveland was killed in action two weeks before the ending of the war in Europe. She and her son, Master Sergeant Freeman Loveland were present at his burial in Maastrict, Holland.

Mrs. Loveland, whose husband W. Irving Loveland died in 1952, was a postmaster in Harrisonville for 22 years, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of the New Jersey and National Retired Postmaster Associations, Harrisonville Grange, Harrisonville Fire Company Auxiliary, Charles F. Pancoast American Legion Post 237 in Woodstown, the Pennsville American Legion Post 297 Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother.

Mrs. Loveland took an active part in Legion and postmaster activities, traveling throughout the United States to attend postmasters and American Legion conventions.

Surviving are her son Freeman, of Pennsville; two grandchildren and eight grandchildren.

Services will be held in the H.T. Layton and Son Home for Funerals, Woodstown, where friends may call. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton.
