Our most beloved sweetheart, father, son, brother, uncle, and best friend, Richard James Atkinson, age 47, passed away March 2, 2000 in Salt Lake City, after suffering a long, hard battle with cancer.He was born December 26, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah, son of Ronald J. and Mary Melba Abplanalp Atkinson. Richard was one of a kind, a true cowboy. He loved music, horses, hunting, and being with family and friends. He was a member of Iron Workers Local #27 for many years.

"You've gone to the highest mountain of all."

He is survived by his sweetheart, Linda Jo; daughters, Brandi and Jami; mother, Melba Atkinson; sister, Camille; birth mother, Jean Blanke; brothers, Michael, Jeff and Terry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald J. "Muggs" Atkinson; sister, Jeanille Waters; horse, Blaze; and dogs, Ruffy and Buddy.

Memorial services will be held Monday, 2:30 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Utah Motorsports Foundation in Richard's name, at 764 West South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104
