Theatre director, national actor of the USSR, and general director of Sundukian Theatre. Born in Van, he studied in Yerevan and Moscow. In 1928 he founded the Second Armenian State Theatre (Gyumri State Theatre) and in 1939 moved to Yerevan Sundukian Theatre, becoming its artistic director. He directed Alexander Shirvanzade's "For the Honour" (1939), William Saroyan's "My Heart's in the Highlands" (1961), Papazian's "Rock" (1944), Nairi Zarian's "Ara Geghetsik" (1946), and several musical presentations. He was awarded the State Prizes of the USSR (1951) and Armenian SSR (1971). He is buried with his wife actress Arus Asrian.
