Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served his country until 1945. He was transferred for special duties to the Marine Corps and was in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Bob spent a good portion of his career in local government, working 10 years as Public Works Director for the City of Sunset Hills, Missouri and then moved on to a larger city, St. Charles, Missouri, to serve as its City Manager. Bob loved the day-to-day challenge of meeting with and serving the public.
After moving to Colorado Springs in 1979, he began working as Manager of the Security Water and Sanitation Districts. He served in that capacity for 17 years before retiring, although he didn't really retire. He then served on the El Paso County Planning Commission, the County Highway Advisory Commission and was involved in the Colovest Investment Club.
Bob was also a Director of the Board on the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District from 1986 to 2006, serving as its Vice President. In his younger days Bob loved to hunt and fish; however in later years he said that the animals were too beautiful to shoot, so decided that taking pictures of them was more satisfying.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margie Schrader; son, Craig P. Schrader; step-daughter, Linda Morgan; step-son, Michael Royal; grandchildren, Jeremy Kyle Schrader, James Preston Schrader and Christopher Steven Schrader. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Robert Thomas Schrader, Jr.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., at the Swan Law Cascade Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs.
