Mom was born on June 01, 1923 on West 10th Street in Newport, Kentucky, the second child of Russell Luther Engle and Berttie Elizabeth McCarty. She grew up on Home Street in Clifton (now South Newport, or "up on the hill" as it is often referred to) in a large family during the Depression. She married her childhood sweetheart Darwin Lindsey Schultz (son of Harry Roy Schultz and Nellie Lindsey Hedger) on May 29, 1942. They had eight children: Margaret Lee (Marz), Kathleen Ann (Johns), Darlene Marie, Pamela Jean (Bedinghaus), Darwin Lynn, Michael David, Thomas Jeffrey and Robert Harry, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was well known along the Ohio River marinas for her cooking (especially her Jack Salmon) in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area. I can remember visiting some of these places as a child with Mom and Dad; and overhearing someone trying to convince her to come work for them. She politely refused, as she was happy with her employers at Jenny & Elmer's Yacht Club, outside of Bromley, KY. She also volunteered as a "Pink Lady" at Saint Luke Hospital in Fort Thomas.

Mom was a favorite of our friends as we all grew up; everyone knew that Mrs. Schultz would feed you and it was going to be good. Many of our friends called her "Mom", too.

Mom was a walking miracle, she went through two bypass surgeries, two brain surgeries and numerous surgeries on her back. Mom passed away quietly from complications due to pneumonia at Saint Elizabeth South Medical Center on May 3, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
