Funeral Services for Mrs. Sophia Fessler Seekings Held Monday.
Mrs. Sophia Fessler Seekings, for 75 years a resident of Ellington township, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Hunt, Saturday morning, after, being confined to her bed for the past 12 weeks Death was caused from infirmities of old age. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro, Rev. H. W. Ambrose officiating and burial was made in Ellington cemetery.
Six grandsons acted as pallbearers, Glen Seekings, Delano Rose and Hazen Hendrick of Flint, Austin Stoddard of Watrousville, Harold Deneen and Chester Emmons of Caro.
Born April 19, 1856, in Schenectady, New York, the youngest of eight children, Sophia Fessler came to Michigan with her parents in 1861, locating in Ellington township and lived all her life in Tuscola county. Caro at that time was called Centerville and the road
between Ellington and Caro was just a footpath. Many interesting stories could she tell of the dense forests between Caro and Ellington and of the Indians who had a battle at Elmwood shortly after they settled there. Twenty-five years ago she suffered a stroke and has been an invalid since.
In 1873, she was united in marriage to Gilbert J. Seekings who preceded her in death twenty-eight I years ago.
Mrs. Seekings is survived by seven children, Mrs. Guy Stoddard of Watrousville, Charles Seekings of Gagetown, Samuel Seekings of Flint, Bert Seekings, Mrs. Herbert Spaulding and Mrs. Evans Rose of Caro, and Mr. Harry Hunt Where she had made her home for the past 18 months; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Arthur Deneen, died six years ago.
