Clara H. Arnold was born at Orrville, Ohio, October 16, 1888, one of the 12 children of Emma J. and Anthony C. Arnold. She departed this life at Clarkson Memorial Hospital, Omaha, August 19, 1951, at the age of 62 years, 10 months and three days.
At the age of 12 years she moved with her parents to Craig, and in 1905 they moved to Tagus, North Dakota. In this same year she was united in marriage to Ross P. Melius. To this union were born two children Elva and Earl.
Later she returned to Nebraska with her two children where she was united in marriage to Edgar E. Hale at Omaha September 26, 1911. To this union were born four children, Harold, Hazel, Evelyn and Doris. She was also mother and counselor to her husband's four children, namely Cecil, Ruth, Floyd and Orpha. She was never happier than when she was doing something for others, and from the depth of her loving heart she was able to unite the three units into one happy family.
She was a faithful and devoted wife, Home keeping was a sacred task to her, and a warm welcome was given to anyone who entered within her gate. She was a kind and thoughtful friend, honored and respected, for just to know her was to love her.
By confession of faith in a loving Savior, she united with the Divide Center Church August 1, 1915, to which she remained a true and faithful member. She relied upon her Lord for help and strength throughout her life, especially during her years of failing health.
She resided with her husband and children on the same farm in the Divide Center community for 33 years. In 1943 they moved to Lyons where she lived until the time of her death.
She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Gladys Drummond of Lyons; Mrs. Stella Barnhill of Abingdon, Virginia; Mrs. Hazel Mason of Portland, Oregon; Miss Emma Arnold of Amarillo, Texas, and four brothers, Edd and Merle of Lyons; Forrest of West Point, and Harry of Tekamah. Her parents, one sister and two brothers preceded her in death.
Those left to mourn her passing besides the brother and sisters are her husband, six daughters, Mrs. Ruth Brandt of Scottsbluff; Mrs. Elva West of Ridgefield, Washington; Mrs. Orpha Bowling of Campbell, California; Mrs. Hazel Christensen of Lyons; Mrs. Evelyn Gilbreath of Omaha; and Mrs. Doris Larson of Boulder, Colorado; four sons, Cecil, Earl and Harold of Decatur, and Floyd of Lyons; 24 grandchildren, one great grandchild and other relative and friends.
She is at rest,
No more need she awake to strife and pain,
She is with God,
We part today in sorrow
To meet in joy again,
In that bright sunrise of tomorrow. –Mrs. Floyd Hale
