Elaine Ellen (Standley) Schuchard, 70, died of natural causes Thursday June 12, 2008 at a local hospital.
Survivors include three children, Barb (Scott) Milner of Ketchikan, Alaska, David Lambert of Deer Lodge and Dennis (Dee Dee) Lambert of Sparks, Nev. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; sisters Jan (Jerry) Albright of Shelby, Paulette Linabary and Louise (Bob) Falk of Great Falls, and Kathy (Doug) James of Billings. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Don, who preceded her in death in 1992, she also was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Bertha Standley; a sister, Becky Olsen; a brother-in-law, Mike Webster; and a nephew, Kirby Albright.
Elaine was born Oct. 29, 1937, in Helena, Mont., to Lester and Bertha (Fraser) Standley. She attended school in Helena during the first and second grades, until the family moved to Cascade in 1944. She continued her grade-school education at Travis School and graduated from Cascade High School in 1955. After attending Rocky Mountain College for a semester, she began working in the insurance claims business in Great Falls.
She retired in 2002, and thoroughly enjoyed the time she had to work on puzzles, crocheting and crafts. A Sudoku expert and master at crafts, Elaine was famous for the many potholders she crocheted as gifts and craft sale items. Sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews treasure the crocheted afghans received for numerous occasions.
Elaine was a member of Insurance Women; VFW Auxiliary 5590, and had a lifetime membership in Cascade Chapter, No. 101, OES.
On Oct. 28, 2007, many friends and relatives gathered in Cascade to help Elaine celebrate 70 years of life. It was a joyous special day for her. In 1998, Elaine had a bout with cancer and recovered for the most part. Just recently, she had spent time in the hospital. On Wednesday, she became very ill and was hospitalized until her death Thursday morning. She passed away with her loving sisters, Paulette and Louise, by her side.
Elaine is greatly missed already. We remember her with much love.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
