John Stinman, 79, life long resident of Adair County and a longtime resident of the Fontanelle community, died Wednesday, Mar. 25 at a hospital in Clarinda. He had been in failing health for several years, and he and his wife moved to Orient four years ago to be near their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Meltabarger as they were both in failing health.

John Wesley Stinman, son of John J. and Delia Ann Stinman, was born June 16, 1874 in Eureka Township in Adair County and passed away March 24, 1954 at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 8 days.

John attended the rural school at Eureka Center and spent his early life in that community. In 1893 the Stinman family moved to Richland Township and John worked and farmed in the community.

He was united in marriage to Minda Bell McClure, October 24, 1900. To this union five children were born.

John was a member of the Fontanelle Odd Fellow lodge and he attended the Congregational church at Pleasant Grove in the community where he lived.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vernice, who passed away at the age of five; an infant son, and a son, Herold, who passed away in 1949. Also by two brothers and a sister. After the death of Herold, Mr. and Mrs. Stinman moved to Orient, Iowa, where they lived at the time of his passing.

John has been in failing health for the past three years. He is survived by his wife, Manda, two daughters, Mrs. Vera Meltabarger and her husband, Virgil of Orient; Miss Inez Stinman of Des Moines, Iowa. Also very close to him were Mrs. Margaret Green and her children, Sharon, Charles and Sandra. Two brothers, Loren of Orient and Blaine of Fontanelle and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Thomas, Greenfield, Miss Lillian Stinman of Fontanelle and Mrs. Harriet Ewing of Kansas City.

Relatives from a distance were Mrs. Carl Stinman, daughter Eleanor and son Warren of Farnum, Nebr., John Rolston of Curtis, Nebr., Mrs. Harriet Ewing and Mrs. Herbert Pace of Kansas City, Mo. And Paul Ewing of Lake Lotawana, Mo.
