Funeral services for Dewey Shelton King, 75, of Minden, were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at Minden Church of Christ with Adrian DeLukie and Jim Frazier officiating. Interment followed at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Minden.
King was born Jan. 23, 1931 in Gibsland. He died on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006. He celebrated his 75th birthday on January 23 and his 50th wedding anniversary on October 8, 2005. He was a wonderful husband, father, "Pappaw," brother and friend. He touched the hearts of the people who knew him and he will be deeply missed by everyone. He was a veteran of the Korean War with the U.S. Army and was an active member of the Church of Christ, serving as both deacon and elder for several years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Arline Norris King; infant son, Shelton Turner King; and his father and mother, George Dewey and Ruby McBride King.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gwili Browning King; son, Mark Dewey King and wife Katrina of Mansfield, Texas; daughter, Marva Lynn Wheeler and husband Anthony of Springdale, Ark.; one son, Marshall Browning King of Fayetteville, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Taylor Shelton, Allison Leah, Brianna Marie and Cassidy Leann King, Matthew David, Cody Shelton and Trenton King Wheeler and Claire Ashley King; three brothers, Martin "Lit" King of Ringgold, Ed King of Ringgold and Donnie King and wife Wanda of Minden; five sisters, Elwanda Roper and husband Frank of Harahan, Edna Lane Raner and husband Bill of Lilburn, Ga., Tina Price and husband Jay of Dubberly, Faye Ferguson and husband Hubert of Dixie Inn and Debbie Jaques of Benton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
King was like a brother to his wife's siblings, Alene Yeager and husband Don of Shreveport, Jerrel Browning and wife Phyllis of Arlington, Texas and Lawana Hutson of Pineville as well to his very close personal friends, Jim and Betty Mikal Frazier and family of Sibley.
Pallbearers were Charlie King, Josh King, Keith Yeager, Taylor King, Darrel Hutson and Brad Smith.
