Miles Warren Higley was appointed Corporal and them Sergeant in Co. E., 68th O.V.I., in which unit he served with his older brothers (Sheldon and Austin); Miles Higley enlisted in the 68th at Napoleon Ohio on Dec. 5, 1861. Miles was wounded in the right leg at Champion Hill near Vicksburg on May 16, 1863 (Champion Hill was the pivotal engagement of the Vicksburg Campaign). After taking part in the Grand Review at Washington, he was mustered out of service July 10, 1865 at Louisville Kentucky. Miles Higley married Amanda Ann Snow, the daughter of Richard Sullivan Snow and Mary Partch, on Sept. 18, 1866 in Williams Co. Ohio. About 1881 Miles and his family moved to Crawford Co. Pennsylvania, where they lived near Conneautville until 1894, when they moved to Meadville . Miles passed away at the home of his son, Oren Brewster Higley.
