Funeral services for Murray Van Buren Saxton were held Mon. Jul 19. 10 am at the Riverside Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Richardson officiated. Organist was Dorothy Miller.
Casket bearers were Dennis Gill, Bill Method, Ed Morrow, Cliff Morrow, Phillip Hennig and Alan Hennig. Honorary bearers were Erwin Hennig, Sam Morton, Glen Hunter, Don Gill, Earl Miller and Elwin Gilliland.
Graveside military rites were by Decatur American Legion Roger Crum Post 215. Burial was in the Decatur Cemetery.
Murray van Buren Saxton was born to Marion W. and Liva (Gray) Saxton on Sept. 27, 1924 on a homestead six miles southwest of Decatur. He passed away on July 9, 1992, at the age of 67, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha following a long illness.
A lifelong resident of Burt County, he was educated in country schools in Burt County and graduated from Riverside High School in 1942.
He married Joan Besst on April 7, 1956 in Blair. They made their home on a farm south of Decatur. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. He served in the army during the Korean War and was a member of Decatur American Legion Roger Crum Post 215.
He is survived by his wife, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cheryl Saxton, sons Randal of Sioux City, Ia., and Timothy Lowell of Decatur; daughters, Luann and Karen Saxton, both of Omaha; a brother Merrill of Tekamah; a sister, Mrs. Carol (Maxine) Gilbert of Decatur; five granddaughters, Megan, Danielle, Chelsi, Brooke and Jess, and four grandson, Jakob, Alex, Jack and Tyler
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lowell.
