James Edward Borel, old time resident of this county died Saturday morning. He had been subject to heart attacks for several years past and died during one of these spells. Mr. Borel was preparing to make a trip to Mason City to visit and had gone to his room when the fatal attack occurred. Mrs. Jack Claude went up to his room to see why he was delayed and found him dead on his bed.
Mr. Borel was a native of Switzerland and was 72 years old at the time of his death. He came to this country when 22 years of age and located on a farm in Jones County, Iowa. His two brothers, Fred and Charles accompanied him to this county. After two years in Jones County all came to Wright County, where the three brothers took homesteads just north of Clarion. During this time he was married to Miss Mary Goslin, who preceded him in death nine years. Seven children were born to this union, four of whom survive, Mrs. Anna Clark of Mason City, James Borel of Rowan, Mrs. Rose Askvig of Goldfield and Charles of Goldfield. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, one brother Fred living in Clarion.
After residing on the farm for some years Mr. Borel went to Missouri to evade the cold winters, but returned to Iowa after five years. At the time of this death Mr. Borel was making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Claude.
Funeral services were held from the Claude home in south Clarion at ten o’clock Monday morning with Rev H.O. Spelman officiating. Interment was made in the Clarion cemetery.
Not noted are the three children who preceded him in death.
