My mom Minnie Lee Williams born to Ruben and Estella (Gosa) Williams, In Greenwood, Mississippi. She was the fourth of eight children. Two who preceded her in death, Mary Alice Staples and Charles Williams.
Mom along with her parents moved to Michigan in 1946. Completing her education in the Hamtramck School System.
In 1949 she met Ernest Sanford, Sr. this union produced a large and loving family of seventeen children. Ten children preceded her in death, five infants and five adult children, Taryn, Brenda, Charley, Johnie and Michelle. Two grandsons Tijuan Kidd and James Sanford.
Mom was employed at Park Community Hospital for over 12 years as a operating room assistant, until the hospital closed. With twelve children at home, she applied for a part time job that turned full time at the Thompson Funeral Home. She found something she liked to do, and that was making someone happy. After dressing and cosmetizing the deceased, she knew the family would be pleased. That was my mom, always praying, feeding, clothing, comforting and loving those who had fallen short.
Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer two months ago. We as family kept her home per her decision along with Hospice. Taking her from home was out of the question. The only time she was ever away from home was when she was having a baby. She was never in pain. We did not want to know how long she had, We just wanted to enjoy her as long as we could. On the morning of June 3rd she asked us to call everyone, as tired as she was, she was able to greet and touch over 100 friends and family members. With the house full as always on any given day, she heard the voices of her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-children, family and friends. At 1:38 a.m. Mamma closed her eyes and went home to be with the Lord.
Mom leaves to cherish her memories: My dad Ernest Sanford,Sr. seven children; Gardell (Carolyn), Arnette, Bernadette (Ronald),Kevin, Kimberly, Ernest,Jr. and Theresa. 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and a host of family members and friends who are missing her.

God saw that you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered "Come To Me."
With tearful eyes we watched
And saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay
Your golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove,
That He only takes the best.

Although not very far.
I'll be watching through the sunshine
And through the brightest star.
