Mr. Morton was a World War II Navy veteran. He served sea duty on the USS Reina Mercedes, USS Wichita, USS Aucilla and the USS Apollo and participated in the shore bombardment of Casablanca, French Morocco in November of 1942. He saw shore duty at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and at Naval Training Station in Newport RI. He was awarded the Navy Good Conduct medal with second award pin, the American Defense Service medal with "Fleet" clasp, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with two bronze service stars, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with two bronze service stars, the American Theater Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal.
