Ulvert Elkins, 83, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 26, 2008.

Born February 15, 1925, in Oceana he was the son of the late Dennie Wirt Elkins (1879-1950) and Corbie Louvena Stewart-Elkins (1897-1972).

Mr. Elkins was a WW II U.S. army veteran having served his country in the South Pacific, retired coal miner for Eastern Associated Coal Company at Kopperston for 32 years and a member of Penecostal House of Prayer in Lynco. He enjoyed fishing, camping and yard work.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian M. Griffith-Elkins (1925-2001) whom he married on May 4, 1946 in Hatcher, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1946, Page 455, Application Date: May 1, 1946); a brother, Ott Elkins (Deceased); five sisters, Callie Elkins-Lambert (Deceased), Ruth Vida Elkins-Bailey (1919-2001), Millie Elkins-Smith (Deceased), Rita Elkins-Bragg (Deceased) and Myrtle Elkins-Johnson (Deceased).

Those left to cherish his memory are three sons, Julius Dale "J.D." Holmes (1942-2009) of Cleveland OH, Frank Ottway Elkins & his wife Brenda Elkins of Oceana, and Ernest Lee Elkins of Oceana; two daughters, Anna Ruth Holmes-White-Smith and her husband Jessie R. Smith of Oceana and Linda Elkins-Lafferty and her husband Randy Lafferty of Fairdale; a brother, Raymond Elkins of Camden, TN; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
