Flying instructor W.O.1 W.J. Coward died from a compound skull fracture when his plane crashed in a field in Flos Township, Simcoe County, Ontario. He was posted at Camp Borden, near Barrie at the time. He left behind a wife, Helen Mae Barnes.
Another pilot, Kenneth Edward Thomson, age 20 of Dunblane, Scotland was also killed in the crash.
Also killed in the same crash was Flying Instructor Ralph Edmund Wood, age 20, of Picton, Ontario, who was born in Motherwell, Scotland.
