Anne L. Hutton, 82, of Parkersburg died Dec. 28, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Harrison County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Ray Robinson and Ida Rebecca Purkey Robinson Gates. She earned her bachelor's degree from Central State College and her master's degree in counseling from West Virginia University. She was the first woman parole officer in the state of West Virginia in 1965 and worked in Kanawha County. She worked in guidance and counseling throughout the state during the course of her career. She was an accomplished pianist and artist and loved gardening and raising flowers. She possessed a passion for caring for animals and was known as the "Birdy Lady" in her younger years for caring for injured birds.

She is survived by her son, Richard Griffin and his wife, Barbara, of Culloden, W.Va.; her brother, John Robinson and his wife, Patricia, of Huntington, W.Va.; her sister, Betty Weiford; her husband, Arnold, of Charleston, W.Va.; many friends; and two best friends, who helped care for her, Norma Burton and Joan Studenic.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Hutton, and her only grandson, Jeffery Michael Griffin.

There will be no visitation and a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family wishes that friends may plant a flower or tree in her memory.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Humane Society of the donor's choice.
