John Wendell Smith Sr. July 20, 1922 - June 18, 2008 John was born to Roscoe and Ethel Smith in Whitefield, Oklahoma. He married Jewel Shipley, the love of his life in 1941 and they had eight children. John was active in the Civilian Conservation Corp before joining the Army in 1942. After moving to Bakersfield John was a purchasing agent for Hacienda Restaurant & Hotel & Freddie's Top of the Hill and businesses in Las Vegas. For 30 years John and Jewel, traveled extensively across the US in a motor home pursuing their passion for antiques. Buying, selling and stocking their 3 stores in California. John lost the love of his life, Jewel in 2006. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Jewel; 3 sons and 1 daughter. He is survived by daughters, Brenda Dupree, Linda Woolley, and Regina Revo; his son, John W. Smith Jr.; brother, Bert Smith; and sister, Mary Nell Brush; 22 grandchildren and 36 great- grandchildren. John lived life to the fullest and was loved dearly by all his children, family and friends and will be missed greatly. Visitation at Kern River Family Mortuary, June 23rd, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service June 24, at 10:00 a.m., at Kern River Family Mortuary.
